Marianne Vos (CCC-Liv) took a great win at La Course today when the women's race was held in Pau to coincide with the men's TT stage of the Tour de France.
However, while the race was hosted into the same finish as the men's race and was filmed for broadcast in the same way, the media interest was much lower.
UK journalist Peter Cossins turned up for the post-race press conference. However, his selfie shows he was the only one there.
"This was what Marianne Vos looked out at in her La Course press conference just now. Me and a lot of empty seats," Cossins Tweeted with an image of himself and empty chairs.
He continued: "Embarrassing that one of the sport’s greatest ever riders gets ignored like this."
It appears none of the media, aside from Cossins, in Pau for the Tour took time out to go to the press conference.
However, the incident shows that trying to promote women's versions of the largest men's races in the world, especially on the same day, is not straightforward in that the men's events can overshadow the women's races.
The empty press room was a real shame considering the exciting racing witnessed.
Amanda Spratt (Mitchelton-Scott) went clear for the final 25km on her own and pulled out a gap.
Vos attacked deep inside the final kilometre from the select group that was hunting down Spratt and demolished the finish.
She passed Spratt and distanced the others with a brilliant final kick to win on the uphill finish.
