Having finished in seventh place in the men’s TT at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games yesterday, Marcus Christie said he may have a go at the hour record.

The 27-year-old international road rider and former An Post-Chainreaction man was very happy with his performance on the Gold Coast.

In the 38.5km race against the clock, Cameron Meyer took the gold medal for Australia in a time of 48:13.

Harry Tanfield (England) was next at 30 seconds, with double Olympic gold medal rower Hamish Bond (New Zealand) taking 3rd a further two seconds back.

Marcus Christie (Northern Ireland) finished some 2:29 off the winner on the day after a course with two hard climbs.

“All in all it was a very solid ride, and I’m very happy. It was a brutal course with a few 21 per cent inclines,” he said.

“I rode a solid tempo and didn’t die off too much in the end. I rode the two climbs pretty well I thought.”

And while his ride at the Games had only just ended, he was already looking ahead.

“I’m getting a lot closer to where I want to be. I might give the hour record a crack next. I think that event would be tailor made for me.”

Xeno Young, also of Northern Ireland, was 25th some 5:54 off the winning time.
