
A man has died in hospital from injuries he sustained in a crash while cycling on Saturday.
Gardaí do not believe any other road user or vehicle was involved in the crash, though the precise cause of the man’s fall remains unclear.
An investigation into the man’s death has begun and
gardai in Fermoy station in Co Cork are appealing for any witnesses to come
forward.
The crash occurred at Meadstown, Kildorrery, Co Cork,
yesterday evening at about 6.20pm. While the man was treated at the scene and
taken to hospital, he has since died from his injuries.
“Gardaí are investigating a fatal, single vehicle road
traffic collision that occurred at Meadstown in Kildorrery, Co Cork, at approximately
6.20pm on Saturday, July 24th,” a Garda statement confirmed.
“A male cyclist received treatment at the scene following
the incident but he was later pronounced deceased.
“The body of the man, aged in his 40s, was taken Cork
University Hospital where a post-mortem will now take place. The scene remains
closed this morning to allow for a technical examination.
“Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information on this
collision or anyone who may have video - including dash cam - footage to make
this available to them.”
