Man arrested after cyclist killed in crash involving truck driver in Co Dublin

A man has been arrested after a cyclist lost his life in a crash involving a driver in a truck in north Dublin on Monday. While the emergency services rushed to the scene, and the victim was given medical treatment, he was pronounced dead there.

Gardaí have launched an investigation and made an arrest, confirming the fatal crash happened in Balbriggan early on Monday afternoon.

"At approximately 12:40pm, gardaí and emergency services responded to the collision, on Dublin Street R132, Balbriggan, Co Dublin," The Garda Depot in the Phoenix Park said in a statement.

"A male cyclist, aged in his 70s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Coroner has been notified and a post-mortem examination will be arranged. A male, aged in his 30s, was arrested at the scene.

"The scene remains preserved for technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and the road is currently closed. Local traffic diversions are in place."

Gardaí have also appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or anyone with information to share, to come forward.

"Road users with camera footage, including dash-cam, who were travelling in the area of Dublin Street... between 12:00pm and 1:00pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí."
