MAMILs movie to get one screening in Ireland

 

The MAMILs movie - on Middle Aged Men in Lycra - is coming to Ireland for one screening.

It will play in a Dublin cinema later this month. The proceeds will go to St Francis Hospice in Raheny.

The screening is being organised by Naomh Barróg Cycling Club.

And the movie will play at the Odeon, Coolock, at 6:30pm on Wednesday, February 21st.

The movie - MAMIL - has been made by Australian documentary makers. It has proven very popular around the world since its release last year.

They followed middle aged male cyclists all over the world. And they tried to find out why cycling now means so much to them.

"They are known as MAMILs," say the movie makers; Nickolas Bird and Eleanor Sharpe of Melbourne-based Waterbyrd Filmz.

"The term was invented in recognition of the recent explosion in cycling among middle-aged men.

"They can usually be spotted on weekend mornings – flying down the road in a cacophony of garish lycra and expensive carbon frames and wheels.

"These are middle-aged, middle-class men with careers, families and mortgages.

"They are never going to win the Tour de France. Yet they spend a huge amount of time, money and energy on cycling.

"Why is it so important to own the best bike and all the right gear? What compels them to choose long hours on the road over time with the family?

"This light-hearted, yet insightful, feature length documentary explores the secret lives of MAMILs.

"We meet them in their natural habitat through interviews with experts interwoven with MAMIL stories set around the world."
