Luke Rowe has hit back hard at people who accused him of causing former world champion Mads Pedersen to crash (video below) yesterday during Paris-Roubaix.
Rowe (Ineos Grenadiers) suffered a puncture in Arenberg forest and as he tried to get going again he was in the centre of the pavé when some of the riders in the group behind rode into him.
Rowe was barely moving, if at all, at the time though the group behind him was going at speed. While the first two riders saw Rowe and managed to move to the left to avoid him, Pedersen (Trek-Segafredo) was next in line and rode right into Rowe.
Some social media users blamed Rowe for taking out Pedersen on the basis he was in the middle of the cobbles as riders were coming up behind.
However, in a video posted on Instagram, which has since been deleted, Rowe did not mince his words, saying he had been “bombarded with messages about causing a crash on Mads Pedersen”.
"I had a front wheel puncture. I had no control on
the bike. If you're one of those who sent me a message, try riding a f**king
bike through the forest of Arenberg with a front wheel puncture.
“I was trying to stay to the right, the front wheel started to go, I swung to the left, Mads hit me at 40km per hour. If you're one of those who sent me a message I'm going to try and say it as politely as I can, go f**k yourself."
