We brought you news earlier in the week of Matt Brammeier’s trip to Germany for an operation to have the pins and rod taken out of his leg: now we have the photographic evidence.
Have a look, below, at the sheer size of the apparatus they found when rooting around Brammeier’s left leg. We’ve also included X-ray of the titanium structure when it was still supporting the bone.
The Omega Pharma-Lotto rider had to have the “scaffolding” put in to support his left femur when he broke it in a collision with a lorry back in 2007.
It’s been causing him discomfort and hampering the muscle development on his left leg and hip. So on medical advice he went to a private clinic in Hamburg this week to have it whipped out.
He says the procedure all went according to plan and he’s hoping to be able to resume training next week.
“Airport security should be a whole lot easier now,” he says.
