Lithuanian gang tracked via GPS on expensive bike stolen in Dublin

This haul of stolen bikes found in a shipping container in Co Dublin in December was about to be shipped out by a Lithuanian crime gang, gardai suspect

Gardai believe a gang that stole a bike and shipped it out of the country, in a crime tracked on GPS, has also been responsible for a spate of bike thefts in Ireland.

The gang, which is from Lithuania, is also suspected of
being behind the huge haul of bikes found in a shipping container in Co Dublin
late last year.

Gardai believe the group has been targeting higher value
bikes in Ireland, mainly in Dublin, for export and sale on the European market.

A VanMoof bike, all of which are fitted with GPS
trackers, was stolen in Dublin and its journey tracked by its owner and gardai.

The gardai now suspect the route that bike took is the
one that the gang has been using to export stolen bikes out of the country
quickly for resale.

Electrified S worth €3,000 - was stolen from the Camden Street area in Dublin’s
south inner city.

Data from its tracker showed it being taken to an
isolated house close to Dunshaughlin in Co Meath before being taken out of the
country via Rosslare to France.

From there it was shipped to Kiel in Germany and was then
taken on another ferry to Lithuania.

Gardai suspect this route is being used for shipments of
bikes stolen in Ireland and that it is likely the bike with GPS was transported
as part of a larger haul.

Almost 120 bikes were found in a shipping container in
Newcastle, Co Dublin, in December and gardai suspect they were about to be
taken out of the country.

The 116 bikes, all of them stolen, were valued at an estimated €250,000. Gardai suspect the Lithuanian crime gang was behind the haul as many of them were of high value.
