Levi Leipheimer home destroyed in California wild fire
Former pro bike rider, and doper, Levi Leipheimer has lost his home to wild fires in California.
The former US Postal Service rider has posted photos and video online showing the devastation at what was once his house.
His property, one of an estimated 2,000 destroyed by the fires devastating northern California, was in Santa Rosa.
And it succumbed to the flames on Monday, the same day the area was evacuated.
However, he was not living in the house at the time. It had been up for sale and most of his belongings were not there.
But he told CyclingTips that many of his mementos from his racing days were destroyed
“I know it’s a cliché, but it’s just stuff,” he told CyclingTips. “I’m alive. Most of my stuff was already packed up. I didn’t have to escape the fire.”
He posted messages on his social media accounts. One read: "Please send your thoughts and prayers to the people of Sonoma and Napa Counties.
“So many of my friends, neighbours and my community have lost so much. It’s truly devastating and heartbreaking.”
Another said: “I lost my house but not my home here in Sonoma County. We WILL make it through this.”
