With the road season drawing to an inexorably close, Leinster Cycling has reserved a big fixture 'til last, with the provincial titles down for decision in Dunlavin in Co Wicklow this coming Sunday, September 22nd.
There is an impressive schedule planned, with titles and silver and bronze medals up for grabs in no fewer than six categories.
The A1, A2 and A3 categories will all see champions crowned, with gold , silver and bronzes also on offer in the vets, juniors and women’s categories.
The only exception is the lack of an A4 title race. However, there will be a separate race for A4s on the day, with prizes for the first six even though the winner will not be crowned Leinster champion.
There will also be a gold medal for the three top finishing members in the best teams/clubs on the day in all of those events classed as title races. There must be at least three three-rider teams in the category for that race to be eligible to award gold medals to the winning team.
Vets will ride the A1-A2 race and the juniors and women will race along with the A3s, with a separate non-championship race for A4s only.
The course is the same 24km loop previously used for the Kevin McInerney race. The A1-A2 race will be four laps, for a total race distance of 96km. The A3 race will be three laps, or 72kms. And the A4s will do two laps, 48kms.
Sign-on is from 11.30am at Imaal Hall, Main St, and racing starts at 1pm.
Because Cycling Leinster, rather than any club, is running the events, the organisers are seeking help on the day from people who might marshal or drive vehicles etc.
