The slightly later date for the return of the UCI Cyclocross World Cup to Dublin this year will raise hopes that the disciplines biggest stars will be present in the Irish capital for the main events.

However, the fact such a glamorous fixture on the international racing calendar is returning to Irish shores is great news in itself. And with the 2024 edition set to be the third time the World Cup is being held here, it now raises the prospects it will become a long term fixture.

This year's racing will take place in December 1st, which is a slightly earlier than the first year of the Dublin World Cup but a week later than last year.

The November date last year meant Wout Van Aert (Visma-Lease a Bike) and world champion Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck) skipped the Irish race. They wanted to shorten their cyclocross seasons with an eye on staying fresh for the spring classics, and with an eye on the Olympics.

And though racing in Dublin on December 1st is far from a guarantee both - and Tom Pidcock (Ineo Grenadiers) will be on the start line, it increases the chances somewhat. The Olympics will also not be a factor in how the top riders plan their cyclocross season next winter.
