Last call for National Crit Champs and Ballinrobe Two Day

The racing will be fast and furious out west next weekend with the National Criterium Championships and the Ballinrobe Two Day down for decision.

The organisers of the National Criterium Championships have warned those interested in racing next Friday to get their entries in as soon as possible as a field of just 60 riders is permitted on the course.

Western Lakes CC is promising a weekend festival of racing, with the criterium championships in Claremorris on the Friday night preceding the Ballinrobe Two-Day over the weekend of August 8th and 9th.

“The closing date for Ballinrobe is next Wednesday, August 5th, but if we reach the required number of riders before that we’ll have to close the entry and there’s no enter-on-the-day chance for anyone who misses it,” said Padraic Hughes of the host club.

“The same goes for the crit champs and with only 60 places available we’re well over halfway to completing that, so the same applies there.”

The criterium is open to A+, A1, A2, A3, vets and juniors and the same applies for the Ballinrobe Two-Day, though there will be a separate race to cater for A4 riders and it will be possible to pay on the day for that.

The format for the two-day has been slightly changed this year with the stage 2A time-trial reverting to the original format; a 7.4 kilometre test against the clock on a flatter route.

Last year the race took the riders up the viciously steep Lally’s Mountain but that’s been done away with.

Stage one takes place on Saturday August 8th, features three categorised climbs and is 100 kilometres in length.

Stage 2A is the 7.4k test on Sunday morning while stage 2B is another road stage of 117 kilometres but much flatter than the day before.
