Ireland's young star Lara Gillespie back for more at World Champs

Lara Gillespie has already done great things in an Irish jersey but with a bit of luck she can add to her achievements in coming days at the Worlds

One of Ireland’s international star performers over the last couple of seasons, Lara Gillespie will be back at it in coming days.

She will be the country’s sole representative at the World Junior Track Championships in Frankfurt.

The Co Wicklow teenager has a fantastic record already,
with European Youth Olympics TT silver getting her international run underway
two years ago.

Last season she took it up a gear in becoming junior
European points race champion and claiming silver in the individual pursuit at
the same championships.

And earlier this year she won no fewer than three silver
medals at the Europeans; in the scratch race, individual pursuit and points
race.

Gillespie goes in the scratch race on Wednesday; the first qualifying
heat at 1.35pm Irish time and final at 5.15pm Irish time.

She also rides
the individual pursuit and points race on Saturday; safe in the knowledge she has already medaled in all of these
events in the past.

As well as her track prowess, Gillespie has been Irish
elite cyclocross champion this year and last and has ridden the U23 race at the
worlds twice.

She also won the junior road race Irish crown last year and claimed silver this year.
