Lara Gillespie secures sponsor backing from Mater Private Network

Lara Gillespie has been ripping it up on road and track in recent months and is now in an elite group of top tier athletes being backed by the Mater Private

Lara Gillespie has hoovered up Ireland's first ever elite European title on the track, and a series of top results on the road for UAE Team ADQ, in recent months and now the pro rider has secured new backing from the Mater Private Network.

The private healthcare group has decided to provide sponsorship packages to an elite group of five female athletes in a bid to support them in their careers. The idea is that if they are assisted to realise their potential, they will hit the heights and act as an example to young female athletes, and become a voice for them.

Mater Private Network has selected the group of five from across a range of sports, with Gillespie the sole Irish cyclist to get the nod.

Also selected are: Sarah Lavin, Ireland’s fastest woman and a champion high hurdler; Eve McMahon, two-time U21 World Champion sailor and Ireland's youngest-ever Olympic sailor; Ellen Walshe, a leading Irish record-breaking swimmer; and Nicola Tuthill, a rising young talent in hammer throwing.
