Lara Gillespie has suffered a crash in the scratch race at the World Junior Track Championships in Frankfurt, Germany, this evening.
However, while the fall at the end of the final of the race ended her hopes of a medal, her campaign continues.
Gillespie, a European champion and five-time medal winner at the Europeans this year and last, still has other events to come.
She rides the points race and the individual pursuit; both events she has medaled in at European level this year and last.
Indeed, she won the European title in the points race last season; her best result to date.
Earlier today she qualified for the scratch race final by taking a comfortable 3rd place in her heat.
And while she was well placed in the final as it neared an end only to crash, the good news is that she is not badly injured and can continue.
The teenager, who has proven very capable on track, road and in cyclocross in recent years, can hopefully fully recover and give a good account of herself in coming days.
