Video Cavendish clashes with TV reporter at finish
British riders Geraint Thomas and Chris Froome ripped it up at the front of the Tour de France today.
As a result they were putting one of their compatriots under extreme pressure at the very back of the field.
Sprint legend Mark Cavendish (Dimension Data) was one of four riders to finish outside the time limit.
And for three of them, including Cavendish, the race is over. His team mate Mark Renshaw has gone the same way.
And they are joined by Marcel Kittel; the Katusha Alpecin man who won again and again on last year’s race.
His team mate Rick Zabel was luckier. He finished outside the time limit but he sprinted hard for the finish line.
And because he was only four seconds away from making the limit, he has been allowed to stay in the race.
Cavendish and Kittel only made the time limit by 28 seconds yesterday on the first day in the Alps.
Today’s stage 11 from Albertville to La Rosière was only 108.5km. Furthermore, it featured four mountains and a summit finish.
It meant the time limit was always going to be tight for the non climbers.
Cavendish is now aged 33 years and so still has another year or two to return to the race.
In the first clip below he is seen crossing the finish line and clashing with a TV camera man who stepped out into the road

Kittel, below, cut a lone figure finishing last man of the 165 riders who started the stage.
The big German, who won five stages last year, was 12 minutes over the time limit; that's 43 minutes down on the winner.

Zabel, below, was outside the limt but only just. And he remains in the race, after sprinting for the line.
He was credited with last place on the day; in 162nd some 31:32 down on winner Geraint Thomas.
