Kevin McCambridge is preparing for his first year out of the junior ranks and stepping up into the pro peloton with the Ribble Weldtite Pro Cycling Continental team.

He is taking a new approach in starting the season with an eye on building his condition for later in the year, with the National Road Championships a key goal.

As his team is based in the UK, the bigger pro races there will also be important and McCambridge is hoping to gain selection for the biggest fixtures, including the Tour de Yorkshire and Tour of Britain.

With 18 riders in the Ribble Weldtite roster this year, McCambridge is the only one of the group who isn't British. He told stickybottle he had settled in well with the group.

“I’ve been living in Sierra Nevada for the winter building
towards the 2020 season,” he said of his base in the mountain range in the
region of Andalucía, Spain.

“This year I’m taking a different approach to the season
and becoming stronger later on,” he explained.

Before then, however, he will return from Spain and make his debut on the British pro scene in the East Cleveland Klondike Grand Prix in mid April.

“I’m currently in Calpe with the team and I’m really getting along with the lads and super excited for the 2020 season,” he said.

While he would ride in Britain and would also travel to Belgium for some races, he said the Tour de Yorkshire and the Tour of Britain were the two biggest races the team has confirmed so far.

McCambridge, who turned 18-years-old last October, rode
for the Vitus-Chill-NRPT junior team last year.

He won the Irish junior TT crown and claimed bronze in the
road race. He was also 2nd overall at the Junior Tour of Ireland and took a
series of wins on the home scene and in Belgium.

He rode the Worlds for Ireland in Yorkshire and the
Europeans in Alkmaar; competing in the junior road race and TT at both. He was
17th in the Europeans in the TT and 20th at the Worlds.
