Following on from their recent trip to South Africa in late March/early April, the Kanturk underage cycling squad have been invited to race in France over the August Bank Holiday weekend.
The team - which will comprise U12, U14 and U16 riders - will depart on the Friday before the long weekend, bound for Brittany in the north of France and will partake in a three-day event.
In total, team manager Dan Curtin is hopeful of bringing upwards of 25 of his best riders with several of the team who have already raced in South Africa set to travel again.
The invite came about after the team who are hosting the event in Brittany saw just how good the Kanturk team performed in South Africa and asked if it would be possible for them to come over to race.
One of the most promising riders in Curtin’s stable in north Cork is U16 rider Eddie Dunbar who has already taken a string of fine wins this season already, including the second stage of Rás na nOg recently.
Dunbar performed particularly well in the five-day event in South Africa earlier in the season, getting into the decisive moves and landing some fine top 10 results and a stage win, despite having never ridden anywhere near the intensity or distance of what faced him out there.
Others who are set to make the trip to France are talented youngsters Jeremy Lawlor, Dylan O’Brien, Josh Francis and Dillon Corkery.
The team will raise the money themselves for the trip and will be organising a number of fundraising drives in the weeks and months ahead.
Best of luck to the lads.
