
Injured cyclist was found by side of road last evening after being struck by a car. A full scale criminal investigation has begun.
A criminal investigation has begun after a female cyclist was found with serious injuries by the side of the road in Kanturk, Co Cork, yesterday evening.
Gardai believe the incident was a hit and run and they have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
The injured woman is critically ill and it is unclear if she will survive.
The alarm was raised yesterday evening when a passer-by discovered the cyclist by the side of the road, clearly injured, and alerted the emergency services at around 5.30pm.
Gardai believe the woman had been involve in a collision and was hit by a vehicle at the spot where she was found at Glenn South at Naad in Kankurk, Co Cork.
She was rushed to Cork University Hospital where her condition is described as serious.
The scene has been preserved and the road sealed off. Crash scene investigators and members of the Garda’s technical bureau were also carrying out their examinations of the scene today.

The incident is the latest in a series of road collisions involving cyclists since the start of the year.
