Having represented Ireland for the first time in 2012 and taken a stage win in the Junior Tour as well as two stages in the same race this year, Jack Sadler has just revealed he has signed for the UK-based team Rapha Condor JLT.
The squad, managed by former professional John Herety, is one of the best organised and successful Continental teams on the British circuit. It features the likes of multiple Olympic medallist Ed Clancy and former British National Champion Kristian House in its ranks.
In recent years the team has taken on promising young Irish talent such as Felix English and Aaron Buggle, with Sadler’s signing continuing that trend.
“I'm incredibly excited for the up and coming year," Sadler said.
"I've had three weeks off the bike now and have just started back slowly and steadily with my training."
Sadler will be travel out to Australia with a few of the team members on November 20th to complete the second half of his winter training and will then join up with the rest of the squad for his debut in the Bay Crit support races Down Under.
It’s a brilliant move for Sadler and comes on the back of a superb season where he took six wins, including the second and fourth stages of the Junior Tour — the latter coming after six categorised climbs were negotiated.
It’s progress that even he is struggling to come to terms with.
“Not long ago, I was attending college and working part time cleaning and servicing diggers and fitting in my training around that. Now I'm a full time bike rider, riding for the biggest Continental team in the UK. It is quite surreal at the moment to say the least.”
He added he was really looking forward to working with Herety and learning from him.
“So ‘cleaning the boots’ of the team and soaking up everything I can to develop not only as a rider but as a person, I am incredibly lucky to have been given this opportunity."
However, he said if given the opportunity to go for some results himself, he'd take that with both hands.
"I'm really excited for this big change in my career but also in my lifestyle. It’s a big step up but I am really looking forward to learning everything I can and progressing year after year.”
