The Junior Tour of Ireland is set to go ahead this year, Covid-19 allowing, as provisional dates in the summer have now been set for the race.

In a brief statement the race organisers said the event
would once again be based in Ennis, Co Clare. It will unfold on the roads of
the county over six days, from July 13th to 18th.

However, while those plans are in place they are
provisional and will depend on the pandemic having eased enough to enable the
race go ahead.

The event was scrapped last year due to the pandemic,
with Ireland’s other major stage races – Rás Tailteann and Rás na mBan – also not
going ahead last year due to Covid-19.

However, with hard lockdowns being put in place in many
countries as the vaccine roll-out starts to gather pace, it is hoped the
pandemic will have eased within the coming months.

As the Junior Tour of Ireland is not scheduled to take
place until mid July, that leaves plenty of time for conditions to change and
become favourable enough to allow an international stage race take place.

Last year while racing in Ireland, both sides of the
Border, was suspended for a number of months it returned for a prolonged period
and the season was extended into October.

And while none of the major stage races was possible last
season, it is hoped the vaccine roll-out will result in a fuller season this
year.
