Jumbo Visma have suffered a nasty crash at the Vuelta, with most of their riders going down on a tricky section of the stage 1 TTT this evening in Torrevieja.
They rode over water on one section of the course and at a bend just metres later the riders crashed.
While they struggled on, they lost 40 seconds to winners Astana, and team leader Primoz Roglic appeared to take a heavy knock.
To make matters worse, Deceuninck-QuickStep were coming behind them and they got held up a little by the Jumbo-Visma team car that was parked on the road as the staff aided the crashed riders.
Deceuninck-QuickStep looked like they might win the stage, but missed out by just two seconds and will feel the delay perhaps cost them the victory.
Before the stage even started an Euskadi Murias team car was crashed after the driver badly misjudged a bend while following the riders during the recon.
More on the Irish in the race later.
