Jay Vine (UAE Team Emirates XRG) may have gotten back on his bike and finished the final stage of Tour Down Under, to seal his overall victory, on Sunday but medical checks later revealed a significant fracture.

The crash was caused when two kangaroos darted into the peloton with just under 100km of the stage remaining, Vine's team mate, Mikkel Bjerg, also crashed and he was forced out of the race after fracturing his shoulder and hand.

And now UAE Team Emirates has confirmed Vine also suffered a fracture, to his wrist, even if he didn't realise it at the time and kept going for another 95km. The Australian rider has since undergone surgery.

"After the race Jay reported pain in his wrist from his crash during the final stage," said UAE Team Emirates XRG medical director Dr Adrian Rotunno in a brief statement issued by the team on Tuesday morning, some 48 hours after the race finished.
