The streets of London claimed another cyclist as a 21-year old Italian prince was in collision with a truck.

An Italian prince has become the latest cyclist to die in London after he was dragged under the wheels of a lorry in the country’s capital yesterday afternoon.

Filippo Corsini, 21, died in the Knightsbridge area of the city while cycling to a lecture at Regent’s University.

Corsini was the heir to one of Florence’s oldest and most illustrious families and his death brings to eighth the number of cyclists who have died on the streets of London this year.

Witnesses recalled how they saw him dragged across a box junction around 12.30pm.

And though an ambulance was quickly on the scene, Mr Corsini was pronounced dead a short time later.

“The first of our medics arrived at the scene in under three minutes,” a spokesman for the ambulance service said.

“Sadly, despite the extensive efforts of our crews, a man died at the scene.”

The lorry driver, a 42-year old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving, police said.

He was taken to a west London police station for questioning and bailed until December pending further inquiries.
