Iserbyt gets three-race ban as Kamp says Belgian called to apologise

Ryan Kamp grabs Eli Iserbyt immediately after the incident but the Dutch rider now says he just wants to move on

Eli Iserbyt (Pauwels Sauzen-Bingoal) has been given a three-race ban for stamping on the bike of his former team mate Ryan Kamp (Alpecin-Deceuninck Development Team) at Exact Cross last week.

Though Iserbyt was disqualified on the day, a commissaire's report was sent to the UCI, before being reviewed by its legal department and now a three-race ban has been imposed as further sanction.

Iserbyt later said the incident was a continuation of a dispute with Kamp from last season, adding he had stamped on his rival's bike after Kamp said something to him in the moment.

While the Belgian national champion did not refer to his former team in his apology, Kamp has now revealed he has spoken to Iserbyt and is keen to move on.

“It happened, I can be difficult about it all week and lose sleep over it, but the season is still long. It has only just started, I can better focus on that,” said Kamp of last Saturday's bad-tempered incident after both riders had crashed.

“We already called on Saturday evening, then it was over for me. We can keep making things difficult, but it happened. He apologized personally, I accepted it, I don't know why I wouldn't," he said, adding it was not necessary, in his view, that Iserbyt should be banned.

“It is not up to me to decide, the UCI has chosen this. Perhaps to avoid such incidents in the future. I do not really have an opinion about it myself. It would have been fine for me even without the suspension.”
