Irvine just got this nuts and bolts collection removed from his body

Martyn Irvine just got this removed from his body after two years; looks like an offensive weapon!

Currently building his condition again after a period away from racing as he prepares to get back into the pro peloton with Aqua Blue Sport, Martyn Irvine is recovering from an operation to have some scaffolding removed from his body.

As the photos reveal, Irvine got his left shoulder decluttered of the supports put in there two years ago when he broke his collarbone on the track.

The scar looks like a very neat job and one that's healing well.

And when set out and photographed, the plate he had removed looks more like a knuckle duster than a piece of state of the art medical equipment.

Seems to be a neat job that's healing well.

Having been a world champion on the track in the scratch race, it was ironically that event that Irvine came down in at the UCI World Cup in Mexico almost exactly two years ago.

He shared a photo of the X-ray at the time, below, and it's the scaffolding in that image that he has now had removed.

He posted the photos this evening of the plate and of the scar on his Facebook page, which you can find by following this link.

He told stickybottle he was delighted to have the plate finally removed.

"I got it removed as it was constantly annoying me," he said. "Also, it's more crash friendly when it comes to crashing again."

Good to see he hasn't lost his sense of humour!
