Irishman Darach McQuaid is set for a more senior position at WorldTour team Mitchelton Scott after management changes at the Australian team.
Dubliner McQuaid, who brought the start of
the Giro d’Italia to Ireland six years ago, has been working with
Micthelton-Scott since 2017 as commercial director.
However, he is set for a bump further up
the ranks due to a management reshuffle in the wake of the team’s unusual
dealings with Spanish charity Manuela Fundación.
The Australian team had announced the Spanish charity would be taking over as title sponsor immediately and it was understood it would also assume ownership of the outfit from next year.

Team owner and sponsor Gerry Ryan almost immediately distanced himself from the deal, saying a press release had been issued too early and insisting he owned the team and was keeping his options open for next year.
Manuela Fundación hit back saying the deal would go
through and most recently it reportedly offered €10 million for the team
licence.
However, Ryan has said the deal is off and now team general manager Shayne Bannan and Alvaro Crespi, another senior manager, have departed the organisation.
As a result of their departures Brett Copeland, the former general manager at Bahrain Merida, takes over as general manager, with McQuaid also moved up the management ladder to a more senior post.
News of the reshuffle within management ranks at the team emerged in La Gazzetta dello Sport, with an official announcement expected very soon.
McQuaid was a former top domestic cyclist and also represented Ireland internationally on the road.
Before joining Mitchelton Scott in 2017 he ran his own promotions company working in cycling, Shadetree Sports.
As well as bringing the Giro to Ireland it also ran the Tour of Ireland pro cycling race and had a big role in the Giro Gran Fondo Northern Ireland for several years.
