Irishman does 300km spin; gets most 'Irish married couple welcome home' ever

When this Irish club cyclist did an absolutely epic training ride today - more than 300km and 10 hours 17 mins in the saddle - he got a very Irish welcome home greeting!

The sun is shining and you're getting ready to take part in a bike ride the length of the country from Mizen to Malin, so what do you do?

You go on a bike ride to prepare, and a bloody long one at that.

And when you get home - more than 10 hours later after 6pm and with over 300km in your legs - what would you expect?

A cold drink, a nice nutritious dinner; both?

Or even a cold beer and a 'sit down there now and rest you weary bones' kind of greeting from your nearest and dearest?

Well, that's not exactly how things panned out for Barry Meehan of the Worldwide Cycles outfit in Clonmel.

He's been doing a few really big spins lately in preparation for the Mizen to Malin event on June 18th.

But Meehan writes a great bike blog and is organising the new Sean Kelly Classic sportive, as well as working on other ventures with the former world No 1, so he loves the bike anyway and takes off any chance he gets.

He was with three other lads for about 180km but did the rest on his own, riding in fantastic sunshine from Clonmel to Roscrea, Kinnity, Johnstown, Cashel and Cahir before arriving back to Clonmel "via lots of back roads".

And when he got home today after his wife Ciara had held the fort all day, it must be said; she uttered those immortal Irish married couple words: "The grass could do with a cut".

And Meehan, in fairness to him, was inclined to agree.

He took to getting the grass under control, thought under ever-so-slight duress; posting the photo below on Facebook with the message: "I bet Peter Sagan doesn't have to cut the bloody grass after a 300k plus training spin."

We know it's silly, but we love it!

Barry Meehan gets a bit of extra training in after a 300km spin... by cutting the grass.
