The Cycling Ireland Youth Road National Championships have been rescheduled for Carroll’s Cross, Co Waterford, on August 16th, with entries now open.
While uncertainty
still surrounds the junior, U23 and elite road championships – though there is
confidence they will still take place – youth riders now have a definite date
for their title races.
The 2020 championships are being organised by Panduit
Carrick Wheelers and there will be racing for boys and girls in all categories between
U11 and U16.
All events will be fought out on a 12.84km course, mainly
flat, with a slight uphill finish to ensure safety in the sprints to the line.
Races for each
age group will be spread throughout the day and the event will run in line with
current government guidelines.
“We’re really
looking forward to welcoming all of the budding young riders to Waterford in
mid-August,” said event director and Cycling Ireland coach, Martin O’Loughlin.
“We have selected
a lovely course and it’s a great opportunity for children to show off the
skills they have been practicing over the past few months.
“Providing youth
riders with an opportunity to see their friends and test their skills is vital
in helping them to develop as all round riders.
“So we’re delighted to be able to host this event given the challenging conditions we have all experienced this year.”
