Irish U23 cyclist Mitchell McLaughlin is planning a 12-hour ride in Zwift to raise funds for Letterkenny General Hospital during the Covid19 crisis.

McLaughlin, who had a strong season last year and signed
for the Holdsworth Zappi Racing team for this year, plans to do the epic ride
this Sunday.

He tells stickybottle he will probably stop briefly to
change his kit every three or four hours. But those pauses aside, the 12-hour
will be continuous and performed at his home in Donegal.

“I’m going to do it Sunday morning,
starting at five in the morning,” said McLaughlin, clearly an early riser.

“I’m going to ride steady and if I’m
feeling good in the last three hours or so I’ll lift it up a bit. It’ll be fun.”

Twelve hours on Zwift is perhaps not
most cyclists’ idea of fund, but McLaughlin’s effort is for a very good cause
and he’s collecting donations for that cause online.

You can check out his fundraising page by following this link and every cent raised is going straight to Letterkenny Hospital.

Staff there, as with all frontline
medical personnel across the country, are fighting the worst of Covid19 and
with numbers of diagnosed cases rising in Ireland, that work looks set to
continue for quite some time.

“All proceeds will go directly to the staff of
Letterkenny Hospital,” McLaughlin said on his GoFundMe page.

“I am aware that this is a difficult time financially for
everyone and I know some people may not be able to contribute to the
fundraiser. But any money would be greatly appreciated for this cause and for
the support of our frontline staff.”
