Irish U23 men’s road team selected for stage race action in France

A six-man Irish U23 team has been selected for the Kreiz Breizh Elites four-stage race in France this weekend.

The team is comprised of Cathir Doyle (19), Kevin
McCambridge (19), Matthew Devins (19), Adam Ward (20), Dillon Corkery (22) and
Ben Walsh (21).

They will take on four stages, from this Friday to next
Monday, which will start with a 12.4km team time trial in Ploumagoar
on Friday.

There then follows road race stages on
Saturday, Sunday and next Monday of 189.9km, 180.5km and 172.6km respectively.

While the race was cancelled last year
due to the pandemic, it has featured Irish teams in recent years, with national
line-ups taking part in both the men’s race and women’s race just before it.

While the six Irish U23 men get underway
on Friday, a six-rider Irish team will also ride the women’s race on Thursday
and Friday, with a mix of U23 and elite riders selected for that line-up.

Of the men’s team, three of the riders are based abroad
at present; Adam Ward with Antiga Casa Bellsolà Club Ciclista in Spain, Kevin
McCambridge with AVC Aix En Provence in France and Dillon Corkery with
Restauration-Louault 89 in France.

Ward recently won a race in Spain while McCambridge has
taken a recent win in France and Corkery placing 3rd in Nocturne
Cycliste de Bar-sur-Aube-Souvenir Lucien Sonrier at the weekend.

Cathir Doyle is racing on home roads with Powerhouse
Sport while Matthew Devins and Ben Walsh are based in Ireland but riding at
home and abroad in the colours of Continental level teams; Devins with Trinity
Racing and Walsh with EvoPro Racing.
