Irish triathlete's full distance Ironman set-up at home, with skip for pool

Stephen Donnelly is ready for his full distance Ironman at home in Co Mayo, with a skip for a pool, his bike on a home trainer and treadmill for his concluding marathon running leg

Irish triathlete Stephen Donnelly is set to complete his full distance Ironman at home in Ballina, Co Mayo, today, May 1st, and expects to get it done in under 10 hours.

He has secured a builder's skip and filled it with water and with the aid of a swimming band he will be able to swim on the spot in the skip for an hour, his slowest swim time for Ironman.

He'll then jump onto his bike on his home trainer and complete the 180.25km bike leg followed by the concluding marathon run on the treadmill; 42.2km.

These photos show his set-up and he's clearly ready to go. He was aiming to raise €5,000 for charity and before his effort even began he had just about exceeded that.

Donnelly has competed internationally in triathlon and has also ridden some road races, though tri has taken up most of his time in recent years.

The 33-year-old father of one is a life guard and swimming teacher at Ballina swimming pool.
