Irish company lands deal with Miguel Indurain for guided rides

Miguel Indurain will guide groups of Irish riders on spins in his native Spain after signing up with an Irish travel company.

Well known in Irish cycling circles for organising trips to major cycling events and cycling holidays all over the world, Neenan Travel has pulled of a coup in landing Miguel Indurain as a partner.

The five-time Tour de France winner will guide Irish cyclists on rides in Spain, along with fellow former pro and 1991 Vuelta winner Melcior Mauri.

The deal involves a training week in the sun in March in Spain, with Indurain and Mauri joining the camp for three days and bringing the Irish cyclists out on guided rides during those days.

It’s a week-long trip departing via Dublin on Monday, March 6th, and returning on Monday, March 13th – so involves seven nights in Spain.

The group will travel from Dublin to Barcelona and then transfer to Cambrils Park and will enjoy five days of guided rides there, three of those with Indurain and Mauri at the helm and having some banter.

Mauri won the Vuelta and was one of the best TT riders and climbers in the business in his day. He's still in mint condition and competing so he'll be a great man to go for a spin with and listen to his stories and training advice.

Those on the trip will also have a welcome dinner with the two former Spanish pros and there will also be a question and answer session; a public interview of sorts with the questions coming from those present.

It sounds like a fantastic trip and a bit of a coup of Neenan Travel owner Alan Neenan, himself a veteran racing rider on the domestic scene.

He also offers cycling holidays and splits those travelling into different groups to suit the ability and goals of those present; from those who want to do sightseeing on gentle spins to others who want to get long miles into their legs every day.

As well as the training camp trips, Neenan also organises ‘once in a lifetime’ style trips involving cycling holidays in a variety of more exotic destinations; from China to Cuba - as well as off-road cycling holidays.
