Bradley Wiggins has moved to the top of the UCI WorldTour rider rankings after his dominant display in the Tour de France and now leads the standings by a massive margin of almost 200 points for second placed Joaquin Rodriguez.

Daniel Martin has slipped a little from 20th in the last rankings to 25th in the new standings published today, Monday.

However, Nicolas Roche has moved up considerably to 75th place of the total 218 riders who feature in the rankings. Roche had been 140th in the rankings published before the Tour de France.

The Garmin-Sharp and Ag2r men are the only two Irish riders to score UCI WorldTour points this year.

Their points tallies combined have left Ireland 17th in the UCI WorldTour Nations rankings.

Ireland had previously been as high as 9th and had Ireland held that place we would have been eligible to field a six-man team at the World Road Race Championships in Holland in September.

All nations in the top ten of the UCI rankings on the cut off date of August 15th are eligible to field six riders at the elite Worlds.

However, as other nations with more riders on the WorldTour scored more points combined than the Irish riders in recent months, Ireland has now fallen a little to 17th.

Given the fact that just two Irish riders have scored points, that placing is still a very respectable one. It will entitle Ireland to field three riders at the Worlds.

Once a nation has one rider in the top 100 in the rankings on the Worlds qualification cut off date of August 15th that nation is eligible to enter three riders in the Worlds.

It would not be possible for Martin to slip out of the top 100 in such a short time frame to mid August.
