Irish teams named for World Junior Track Champs, elite MTB World Champs

Ronan Dunne is in the team for the Worlds in Gets, France; one of nine downhill riders selected to represent Ireland

The teams set to represent Ireland at the World Junior Track Championships and the MTB World Championships have been announced by Cycling Ireland.

The team for the track Worlds, set to take place in Tel Aviv, Israel, from August 23rd to 27th is comprised of two riders; Aoife O'Brien and Erin Creighton. Both have already represented Ireland in the junior track Europeans, in Portugal, this season.

O’Brien (Torelli-Assure-Cayman Islands-Scimitar) will ride the omnium and elimination race. Creighton (McConvey Cycles) will take on points race and scratch race before teaming up with O'Brien for the madison.

"Both Aoife and Erin have worked very hard since the European Championships with two training camps in Ghent this month. They can look forward to the World Championships with confidence," said national junior coach Martin O'Loughlin.

Cycling Ireland has named a nine-rider team for the Mountain Bike World Championships in Les Gets, France, from August 24th to 28th.

Ronan Dunne (Continental Nukeproof Racing), who won this year's national championships and took 4th in the UCI World Cup in Snowshoe in the US last month, is is in the team. Former world junior champion Oisin O'Callaghan (YT Industries) also makes the cut having recovered from a recent crash.

They will be joined in the elite downhill race at the Worlds by by Henry Kerr (Propain Factor Racing), Jacob Dickson (MS Mondraker) and Niall Clerkin. And in the junior downhill category, Daniel Lappin and Scott Roberts have been selected to ride for Ireland.

The Irish team will also take on the XC MTB event with junior rider Travis Harkness the sole representative for Ireland in those races as no elite riders have been selected.
