Cycling Ireland has named two Irish teams for upcoming events in France, including an U23 Nations Cup race this weekend.
A six-man team is named for the Etoile d'Or on Saturday, which is part of the U23 Nations Cup.
And on Sunday the same line-up, minus one rider, will compete in the UCI 1.2 ranked Entre Brenne et Montmorillonnais U23 race
Etoile d'Or takes the riders some 180km, starting in Lussac-les-Châteaux and finished in Civaux. While the course is undulation, it features repeated short inclines rather than major climbs.
The Irish team will be
looking to score points towards qualifying as big a team as possible for the
World Road Championships in Yorkshire in September.
Named in the team for
the first event is Ben Healy, who was recently 11th in Gent Wevelgem and also
won Rás Mumhan the weekend before last in Kerry.
His Team Wiggins team,
and U23 Irish TT champion, Michael O’Loughlin is also named with Healy for both
races.
Conn McDunphy and
Darragh O’Mahony, both of whom rider for CC
Nogent-sur-Oise team, also the nod for both races, as does Irish criterium
champion Dillon Corkery.
The latter recently put in a strong
rider at the U23 Tour of Flanders; where he rode for much of the race off the
front.
Adam Stenson, who is based on Monaco this year, completes the Irish team for Saturday’s Nations Cup event.
