The Irish junior team has been withdrawn from the Gent Wevelgem classic in Belgium at the weekend.
A decision has been taken to send the line-up to the Gorey Three Day instead because of the volatile security situation in Belgium after the attack in Brussels on Tuesday.
However, stickybottle understands the U23 Irish team still travel and will ride the U23 Gent Wevelgem.
Both the junior and U23 versions of the race are part of the respective age groups’ Nation Cup and both were scheduled for Sunday.
Cycling Ireland has communicated the decision to the junior riders and is expected to announce the diversion of the team to the Gorey Three Day later today, Thursday.
Selected on the junior team that will now ride the Gorey are: Jake Gray, Luke Smith, Marc Heaney, Robert O’Leary, Tom Knight and Xeno Young.
The U23 team for Gent Wevelgem remains the same: Michael O’Loughlin, Eddie Dunbar, Sean McKenna, Matthew Teggart, David Montgomery and Angus Fyffe.
