Ryan Mullen has put behind him the disappointment of losing the Junior Tour yellow jersey earlier this week by taking victory on stage four around Achill today, Friday.
His team mate on the Stena Line Ireland team, Cormac Clarke continued his progress up the overall standings and is now third, just 49 seconds down on new leader Colin Joyce of the US Hot Tubes team.
Joyce won stage two from a decisive three-man breakaway and was fourth on today’s stage, a very punishing 98.5kms that saw the field split significantly and the strong men emerge at the head of affairs.
Mullen, who crashed and punctured on stage two after winning the opening TT, is well down the overall classification after being penalised by five minutes on that troublesome second stage for jersey pulling and drafting.

However, he took a very good win today, finishing two seconds ahead of American Curtis White of the Hot Tubes B team. Stephen Bassett (Team Specialized Racing) was third, some 28 seconds down and just ahead of new leader Joyce.
Then came Newry strongman Clarke, in 5th spot; 30 seconds down on winner Mullen. That ride was enough to lift Clarke from sixth overall this morning to third.
He has been a very steady performer this week and is still very much in contention for the outright win with just two stages remaining, including the final day on Sunday which finishes up Windy Gap.

Clarke will be looking to make some gains tomorrow before that last chance to grab the win on Sunday. Given his recent strong attacking riding in Ras Dhun na nGall and the Newry Three-Day, he must be fancied to put it up to the best of the international field as the race is settled over the weekend.
The yellow jersey this morning, Jacob Ragan of the UK Maxgear Champion team could manage only 23rd today, some 1:51 down. He has now slipped to 6th on GC.
