Usually a one-day sportive, the Tony Golden Memorial Cycle has switched to a five-day mileage challenge that any cyclist can sign up to.
If you've been slacking off due to the Covid19 pandemic, this would be your ideal opportunity to ease yourself back into the bike, with five rides over the next five days.
Tony Golden was a former member of the Garda who was based in Louth and was murdered on duty back in October, 2015.
Every year his friends and colleagues have held a memorial cycle to remember him and also raise money for good causes.
However, due to Covid19 this year the organisers have decided to switch the event's format to an individual challenge, with the aim of all of those taking part to ride at least 30,000km between them.
You can sign up for any distance over the next five days and do your target mileage on your chosen routes. Once you sign up, which you can do by following this link, the miles you do will be added to the group total.
It's €20/€25 to sign up and you can also make a donation as well as your signing on fee, or instead of taking on the challenge yourself.
As Garda Tony Golden was the 29,909th member to join the force since its foundation, the target group distance during this year's event has been set to 30,000km.
It has also been decided that riders should record their ride distances over five days - starting today, Wednesday, September 16th - and then upload their total onto the event site, as the event this year marks his 5th anniversary.
