An Irish cyclist who was placed in an induced coma following a crash while out training earlier this month has been discharged from hospital and has returned to his home in Drogheda.

Nathan McGreehan, who turned 20 years last week, was discharged from Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

He had also spent some time in the Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, physiotherapy department but is now back home.

“Happy to say that I have been discharged from hospital today and am now back at home,” he said on his own personal Facebook page.

“There are a few bits and pieces still to do but everything is looking positive so far.

“Once again thanks to everyone who came to visit in hospital and for everyone's kind words and well wishes.”

The iTap rider received hundreds of messages of goodwill from friends since he was admitted to hospital at the beginning of October.

He said he has “no recollection of anything that has happened over the past few weeks”.

But credit to the tough young man, he didn’t forget how to pedal a bike and no sooner was he out of the induced coma was back on his stationary trainer.

“After a very traumatic last number for weeks following a crash out training and then an induced coma we got word yesterday from the man himself that he did 30 minutes spinning on a stationary bike in Beaumont's Physio Dept. Need we say anymore,” read a message on his team’s Facebook page.

Nathan himself continued that he feels “fine” and “bit by bit” is starting to remember things.

We will continue to keep you updated on his progress in the months ahead.
