Belfast-based radio station U105.8fm has attempted to apologise for a post about cyclists which it said it now accepts caused "some" offence.

The meme, above, featuring actor Robert Downey Jnr was posted on the station's Facebook page and stated:

"When you thought you ran over an animal but it was just a cyclist...."

Whomever posted the meme added the message: "Drive Safe Folks!"

However, the content has now been removed by U105.8fm and a short attempted apology has been added, though one that does not refer to cyclists.

Indeed, the apology states that "some" people were offended by the meme and the station was sorry that people were offended, though it does not apologise for the actual content.

"Yesterday we posted a meme that has offended and upset some members of our audience," the intended apology states.

"It was not our intention and an error of judgement on our behalf, and we would like to apologise to anyone who was upset or offended with the content of the meme."
