A well-known and highly-regarded young Irish racing cyclist is recovering in hospital in Drogheda, Co Louth, after suffering serious injuries in a crash while out training at the weekend.
Dundalk rider Nathan McGreehan (19) sustained head injuries in a fall on Saturday.
The iTap rider, who is part of the team’s development squad, is currently in an induced coma at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.
A post left on his team’s Facebook page was optimistic about his condition.
It said all of his CT scans have been “favourable” though a further diagnosis from his medical team was still being sought at the time of writing.
Hundreds of messages of support and goodwill have been left on the iTap page today, many from within the racing community.
A family member provided an update, which will no doubt come as a huge relief to all his friends and fellow cyclists:
“On behalf of Nathan, his mother Bridget and the family, thank you all for your prayers and words of support. Much appreciated. Nathan is making good progress thank God.”
From us here at stickybottle we wish Nathan a speedy recovery and our thoughts are with his family and all at iTap at this distressing time.
