Having come out of the O'Leary Stone Kanturk and Banbridge CC stables in their early years, Olympians Eddie Dunbar and Mark Downey will be giving something back this weekend. They will be lining out in support of one of Ireland's hardest working clubs, VG Glendale.
The Belfast outfit has redoubled its efforts in the last couple of years and invested lots of time and effort in its young riders and the rewards are already coming.
Aine Doherty has already lit up the youth ranks while Darcey Harkness has represented Ireland at junior level this year. And in the men's peloton, VC Glendale riders Dean Harvey and Jamie Meehan have been among the very strongest in the country this year.
This weekend VC Glendale is celebrating its 40th birthday and trying to raise money for its future efforts, with a 'Champion's Ride Out' this Saturday morning.
Dunbar and Downey - who competed for Ireland on road and track at the Olympics - will lead the event, which gets underway from the Balmoral Hotel in Belfast at 10am.
It's a 50km social spin - suitable for all ages - through the flat roads of Lisburn, Maze and Moria and will be a great chance to reflect on the season and have a chat with Downey and Dunbar and grab some photos.
You can book your place on the ride by following this link and it's only £10, with the funds raised being ploughed back into the club to help the next wave and Dunbars and Downeys. Even if you can't be there, you could still book yourself in and your entry fee will be put to good use.
