The National Road Championships set to take place in Co Limerick this week will be televised by RTÉ Sport in the form of a highlights package.
It’s a major coup for race director Liam Collins and his
Newcastle West Wheelers team and for Cycling Ireland.
The TT title races will take place this Thursday, with
the road races – including elite men’s and women’s events – set to take place
at the weekend.
RTÉ Sport will be there with their cameras and a
highlights package will be broadcast on RTÉ2 at 7pm next Monday.
Cycling Ireland’s marketing and communications manager, Scott
Graham, said the national governing body was looking forward to the
championships and the TV highlights package.
“We are delighted to bring the Cycling Ireland National
Road Championships to a national audience with the support of RTÉ,” he said.
“Over half a million adults within the Republic of
Ireland are now cycling on a weekly basis and we have all been inspired by Sam
Bennett’s green jersey winning performance at the Tour de France.
“While government restrictions will prevent the familiar
sight of thousands of fans lining the roads to watch Ireland’s top elite
cyclists, we can look forward to exciting racing and a great show broadcast on
RTÉ2.”
As well as the TV package set to be aired next Monday, daily
highlights will also be available across Cycling Ireland and RTÉ Sport social
media accounts.
The highlights show is set to be presented by Peter
Collins and produced by InForm Sports Media.
On Thursday evening the 2020 championships get underway,
with no spectators allowed due to Covid-19, with the TT title races for all
categories.
The junior men’s road race and separate combined senior
and U23 men’s road race take place on Saturday. The final day of competition,
on Sunday, sees the senior women’s road race and junior women’s road race take
place.
