A motorist in Belfast has lost three bikes and the bike rack they were on from the back of his car but didn’t seem to notice.

Facebook user David Roy has shared these photos and explained he was lucky to avoid hitting the flying bikes and rack when they came off the car just in front of his.

The incident occurred at Ormeau Embankment in the city on Sunday.

Roy shared the photos on Facebook with the following message: “Just survived a flying bike rack incident, came off the back of a dark coloured Golf that drove on oblivious, Ormeau Embankment by the allotments. Any cycling types recognise it?”

In reply to messages from others after the original post, he said the driver who lost the gear just kept going despite the best efforts of other road users to alert him.

“Beeped and flashed lights, as did a car coming past the other way - he never even slowed!

“Lucky no one was on pavement, would have taken them right out. Moved bikes round to roadside of tree so they'll be seen easier.”

Roy added the bikes were locked to the rack and that one had taken the brunt of the impact. Oh dear!

Anyone recognise these bikes?
