Irish junior team named for UCI Nations Cup racing in Germany, France

Seth Dunwoody has already enjoyed success in Europe this season and he is named in the first Irish junior road race team selected to compete abroad this year

Cycling Ireland has named a six-man Irish junior team for Nations Cup racing in France and Germany. The team is the first Irish junior selection of the year picked to race abroad.

The riders will compete in the Saarland Trofeo Junior Nations Cup stage race, which features five stages over four days, hosted on both French and German roads.

Irish riders have a very strong record on the race - the former Trofeo Karlsberg in Germany and Trophée Centre Morbihan in France now amalgamated.

Eddie Dunbar finishing 2nd in Trofeo Karlsberg in 2014 before later being upgraded to winner after the rider who finished ahead of him tested positive in a doping test. Michael O'Loughlin won a stage of Trophée Centre Morbihan in 2015 and was 2nd overall.

The Irish team to take on the 2023 edition, which gets underway tomorrow, includes reigning junior national road race champion Oisin Ferrity as well as Seth Dunwoody, Adam Rafferty, Patrick Casey, Sam Coleman and Liam O’Brien.

Martin O’Loughlin will manage the team with Brian Hayden as soigneur and Fergus O'Connor as mechanic.
