Irish international Philip Lavery teams up with Stringer Fitness on cyclists' training project

Philip Lavery is currently in the middle of a trial until the end of the season with the French professional team Cofidis. He will be back home for a training day with Stringer Fitness next month.

Having moved to race in France this year and secured a trial with professional team Cofidis on the back of his best season to date, Irish international Philip Lavery is teaming up with the Stringer Fitness company on a new project for cyclists.

The aim of the one-off event is to offer a day of practical advice to a small group of riders to help them improve their nutrition, lose weight and arm them with the knowledge to increase their strength and mobility.

Lavery and the Meath-based company are running the all-day event for 20 riders in the Stringer Fitness venue in Ashbourne on Saturday, October 12th; with places limited to just 20.

John Lally of stringer Fitness said the day is aimed anyone looking to get healthier and fitter for cycling, whether they are leisure or racing cyclists, or triathletes.

“We’ve been running the company in Ashbourne for a few years now and I’m from a cycling background so I’ve worked with some bike riders, including some Irish pros, and we’ve got great results,” he said.

“After the World Championships last September, we started working with Philip. We’ve completely changed his diet and he’s dropped a lot of weight and is going much better for it. But it’s about achieving that in a sustainable way, and introducing training to make the whole body stronger.”

“Philip has already done some work with youth riders in clubs; going and speaking to them about diet, training and lifestyle, and also speaking to them about his life as a full time athlete, and that’s always interesting.”

“So when we decided to set up this event he was the obvious person to work with. It will benefit people but it will also be an enjoyable day out. Because the racing months are over and the sportives are mostly over, people can learn new ways of doing things and put that into action over their winter training and see the benefits early next year.”
