Róisín Lally has already represented Ireland a number of times in the cyclocross discipline and now the UK-based rider is looking forward to the coming season with a new team and with the support of a cycling academy at her university.
Lally rode the Worlds in Dübendorf, Switzerland, two years ago just before the pandemic hit and was also part of the national team for the Europeans last November at Col du Vam in the Netherlands.
Having raced on the road last year for Team Torelli, a development squad run by Tony Orrell, the 19-year-old has now joined Loughborough Lightning TRG Team for road and track.
She will remain with her current cyclocross team, Dublin-based Scott Quanta Racing, for the 2022-23 cyclocross campaign.
Lally told stickybottle she would ride the British National MTB Series and some of the Cycling Ireland National Road season next year and was delighted to have been signed by her new Loughborough Lightning team.

“I started my degree in September at Loughborough Uni and I was selected join the Loughborough Lightning TRG Team for road and track,” she confirmed.
“This gives me opportunities to race in UK Tour Series, the British National Road and Crit series. I’m especially looking forward to Curlew Cup and the Tour of the Reservoir, which are races close to where I’ve grown up and so are on roads I’ve spent hours training on and have been watching since I was little.
“Loughborough University fantastic for all sports but especially for cycling as they have a dedicated cycling academy which I’m very lucky to benefit from.”
Lally just turned 19 years last week and having taken bronze in the elite women’s race at the National Cyclocross Championships in Armagh already this year she said Cyclocross was her favourite discipline.
“I’m already planning the next cross season,” she said. “The aim is to do a full cyclocross season of the British National Trophy races as well as some races in Ireland. I’m hoping to race in Belgium for the Christmas races having missed the past couple of years due to Covid-19.”
And by splitting her time between Scott Quanta and Loughborough Lightning she was hoping to develop further and gain select for the UCI World Cup races in Europe.
