Peter McLean is the new man at the top of the Irish Everesting record list; the Ards Cycling Club ride among a group of four riders who have recently rewritten the top of the leader board.
Benny Cassidy (Killarney CC) is now in 2nd place followed by Roger Brown (Roe Valley) and Liam McCarthy.
All four took on the Everesting challenge in recent weeks, recording very fast time and pushing previous record holder Dave O'Shea into 5th place.
While Rob Lawrence of Ballymena Road Club Everested in 11hrs 50mins in mid June and his time was ratified, it is not in the Irish list of times.
New record holder McLean tackled the Shay Elliot climb in Co Wicklow 36 times on June 28th, climbing to a total elevation of 8,899 metres, just past the 8,848 metres required for an Everesting ascent.
He covered a total of 209km in 10hrs 59mins and is the first rider in the Irish all-time list to go below 11 hours.
Benny Cassidy chose Ballaghasheen Pass in Co Kerry exactly one week before McLean meaning he held the record for a week - with a time of 11hrs 13mins - before he was nudged into 2nd place.
Cassidy covered a total distance of 225km during his effort on the ascent with an average gradient of 7.88 per cent.
Roger Brown took on the challenge in Limavady on June 27th
and recorded a time of 12hrs 38mins over 229km. He clocked exactly 8,848 metres
and is in 3rd place.
And the new 4th fastest man is Liam McCarthy; riding
Stocking Lane, Rathfarnham, Dublin, on June 26th and recording a time of 13hrs
11mins over 236km with 8,915 metres of elevation.
Then comes former fastest man, whose record had stood since August, 2015, when he rode on the Shay Elliot Climb for 14hrs 47mins and climbed 9,339 metres.
- When covering Everesting in the future, only cyclists in the Irish list compiled by Hells 500, which keeps the Everesting record, will be mentioned by stickybottle.
