Having already had one Irish cyclist on its roster in the shape of Michael O’Loughlin, Team Wiggins has now signed two more.

Matt Teggart and Mark Downey will both be lining out in the colours of the British team in 2018.

Both Irish riders had a fantastic 2017. Teggart won a stage in the Rás and also held the yellow jersey there.

His performance on some of the Tour of Britain stages was also very strong.

And with another winter and seaon of racing with the pros under his belt he may compete for victories in races of that level next year.

Next year will be O’Loughlin’s third season with the team. In 2017 he enjoyed some very good results; finishing 8th overall in the Rás.

He also won the young rider classification that race. And O’Loughlin claimed U23 TT and road race gold at the national championships.

Team Wiggins owner Bradley Wiggins said a strong roster had been assembled for next year. The team is focussed on developing U23 riders.

“I’m proud that Team Wiggins is now known as a top development team for young talent from the UK and abroad,” he said.

“Team Wiggins has exceeded all expectations to date, and the 2018 crop of under 23 riders looks as exciting as ever.

"We had our first team get together with physiological testing last week in Liverpool where it was great to meet the team and talk through the 2018 plans.

"This is the next generation of cycling heroes, and I hope Team Wiggins will inspire more and more people to ride bikes.”

Team general manager Andrew McQuaid said he was delighted with the line-up for next year.

“Team Wiggins is filled with brilliant young riders and we look forward to helping them develop both on and off the bike.

"We are lucky to have some really good team sponsors like Pinarello and SRAM who really support us in our aim of becoming a top development team.

"In addition, we have secured some exciting new partnerships to be announced soon.”
